On FACEBOOK- Idiocy On The Left Breeds Copycat Idiocy On The Right

Do you need more proof that political discourse in this country has sunk to a level most of us have left behind us in the fifth grade?'s some more.

My cousin sent me an email alerting me to the existence of this group on FACEBOOK.

Here's what they're all about.

I find the group not only mean spirited and ugly, and at the least very unfunny....what's worse they're uncreative and hypocritical. Check out this editorial from THE STAR-LEDGER in New Jersey. It deals with a memo sent out by the Bergen County Education Association, a local affiliate of the New Jersey Education Association, to its membership.

"Dear Lord: This year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays . . . I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor."

My next question for the professional Obama haters....what, no Billy Mays?

The NJEA's comments about NJ Governor Chris Christie also appeared on the New Jersey Teachers United Against Chris Christie's Pay Freeze. According to another report by the Star-Ledger, one poster- a teacher- wrote "never trust a fat f_ck", referring to New Jersey's rather large governor.

Alright ladies and gents....anyone who's ever visited this blog doesn't have to be a member of MENSA to realize that I am a fan of President Obama, and not one of Governor Christie. The old adage of two wrongs don't make a right has once again been demonstrated by a bunch of angry and over the top "educators" who should know better and a over a million dopey wingnut types who didn't have the brains to realize that the "joke" they're laughing at was once directed at a Republican.

Bottom line....GROW UP! Wishing the death of another human being, particularly two of our elected officials....its childish. And its unAmerican.

What's gained by this level of incivility? Nothing at all. The other guys just become more entrenched in their beliefs that the other side is the personification of all what's wrong with our country and our society. The level of name calling and finger pointing has in itself become a very unfunny politcal version of PUNKED or JACKASS.

It doesn't matter if the so called joke was directed at Barack Obama or Chris Christie....its in bad taste, its offense, its wrong. There is no excuse, there is no explanation.....its all about "they started it". There's a few hundred thousand "adults" who should have their computer time taken away by Mom and Dad until they're eligible for Medicare.

There's a whole lot of people on both sides of the political spectrum who should be ashamed of themselves.

Do you get the feeling that this country has become one giant kindergarten?? No wonder the rest of the world is laughing at us behind our backs.

Obviously my fellow conservatives on the Right don't understand the implications of what they are praying for; i.e., do they REALLY want Joe Biden to take over the office of The-Most-Powerful-Man-in-the-World?

Judi- like the great George Carlin used to say "Life is a freak show and in America you have a ticket for the front row".

Fred- But if Joe Biden were to assume the office of President he could probably provide amusing quotes for you conservatives as does the former governor of Alaska for we progressives.

That is....after President Obama finishes his very successful second term, of course.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

You should go check out the Facebook page in question. What you'll find is dramatically different than what some of the media coverage has depicted. In fact, the particular examples cited in this article appeared on a fake NJEA website and two NJ news outlets on the very same day - and perhaps not surprisingly, Christie's office had a response ready to go.

The truth is that among over 70,000 fans and tens of thousands of comments, this tiny handful of extreme examples in no way represents what's happening on that FB page. In fact, the page is heavily moderated for offensive content, with special attention paid to comments about Gov. Christie's weight as well as extreme profanity and other offensive content.

It should also be noted that a great deal of the most offensive content posted to the page has actually come from Christie supporters, and most recently, Rush Limbaugh supporters.

I encourage you to go see for yourself. Then ask yourself why this story came out and who did the original research involved.

Kendal- thank you for your comments, and I did check out the FACEBOOK page in question.

The original comments about Chris Christie appeared in a memo from the Bergen County Education Association, and were allegedly repeated on the FACEBOOK page. And I believe that the vast majority of the fans of the page are not fans of the sentiment.

Teachers are educators, not politicians...and in New Jersey they have been demonized by the Christie administration as the cause for all of the state's ills with the possible exception of the explosion of the Hindenburg.

The bottom line is the NJEA has to be smarter than this. A joke in poor taste will find its way to the media and the internet and will be used as political fodder.

In the interest of full disclosure, my father (age 83) was a teacher for 30 years....and I'm with the teachers, firefighters, and police in their struggle to maintain what they've earned over the years.

And yes, I do hold teachers to a higher standard- you cannot, under any circumstance, give the other guys anymore ammo- they already have an arsenal.

If anything, the abusive language used by the wingnuts and Ditto heads on the FACEBOOK page needs to be exposed by some of those who reported the Christie joke in their publications.

In conclusion....just be smart. You can't police everyone or everything online. You're up against a man who was once one of the most successful federal prosecutors of the last decade...if he can find anything out there to derail you, he will.

And all is fair in love, war, and politics.
