On October 6,1998 Matthew Shepard was beaten, tortured and murdered (he died Oct 12) near Laramie Wyoming by Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney. Shepard was targeted by Henderson and McKinney, according to witnesses at their trial, because Shepard was gay.
Today the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill was debated in the United States House of Representatives. What Republican Representative Virginia Foxx of North Carolina said on the floor about the crime has to be seen and heard to be believed. Indeed Rep. Foxx. After seeing this I feel numb...not angry, but baffled on how a person like her manages to get elected and stay there. And what's more disturbing...there are more like her out there, elected officials who just don't deserve to be in the halls of government.
